About The Artwork & Artist

Get To Know Caitlin Trindall

Caitlin Trindall is a proud Gomeroi woman and the creator of Mirii Art. As a multi-disciplinary artist and businesswoman, Caitlin draws upon her own life experiences to create unique contemporary artworks that bring Aboriginal art and culture into everyday spaces and conversations.

Born and raised in the Sutherland Shire, on Dharawal Country, Caitlin has always explored her creativity. Caitlin first began painting in 2016 as a way to connect to her Grandfather in Narrabri despite being physically apart. Inspired by her Grandfather, her business Mirii Art is dedicated to promoting Aboriginal culture and cultural practices through various art forms including hand painted art, digital art, public art projects, and creative workshops.

Caitlin’s artwork is a considered combination of both traditional and contemporary art. She uses traditional symbols to share stories and messages within the artwork, and will pair these will bright vibrant colours to create a modern feel. In addition to this, Caitlin delivers creative workshops within the community, embedded with cultural knowledge, to ensure Aboriginal knowledge and traditions are passed on to future generations.

Caitlin has worked with many clients across Australia, and enjoys building connections with people and communities through her artistic journey.

The Meaning Behind The Artwork

‘Future Pride’

Honouring the strength of women and the generations they guide forward.

This artwork celebrates the strength and cultural pride of First Nations peoples as we mark five decades of NAIDOC Week. Bright colours symbolise hope and the vibrant future of our communities, with blues representing coastal waters and oranges reflecting the red sands of Country. These colours acknowledge the many landscapes across Australia where culture continues to be practiced, shared and celebrated.

Circles represent campgrounds and gathering places where communities come together to connect, listen, learn and celebrate cultural traditions. Bush flowers, waterholes and people symbols throughout the artwork highlight the deep connection between people, Country and spirit.

Flowing through the design is a pink pathway that honours the strength and beauty of Aboriginal women-the mothers, aunties, grandmothers and leaders who continue to nurture culture and guide future generations forward. It is through this strength, connection and cultural pride that we continue to move forward, shaping a future grounded in identity, resilience and community.
