Get To Know Caitlin Trindall

Caitlin Trindall is a proud Gomeroi woman and the creator of Mirii Art. As a multi-disciplinary artist and businesswoman, Caitlin draws upon her own life experiences to create unique contemporary artworks that bring Aboriginal art and culture into everyday spaces and conversations.

Born and raised in the Sutherland Shire, on Dharawal Country, Caitlin has always explored her creativity. Caitlin first began painting in 2016 as a way to connect to her Grandfather in Narrabri despite being physically apart. Inspired by her Grandfather, her business Mirii Art is dedicated to promoting Aboriginal culture and cultural practices through various art forms including hand painted art, digital art, public art projects, and creative workshops.

Caitlin’s artwork is a considered combination of both traditional and contemporary art. She uses traditional symbols to share stories and messages within the artwork, and will pair these will bright vibrant colours to create a modern feel. In addition to this, Caitlin delivers creative workshops within the community, embedded with cultural knowledge, to ensure Aboriginal knowledge and traditions are passed on to future generations.

Caitlin has worked with many clients across Australia, and enjoys building connections with people and communities through her artistic journey.

The Meaning Behind The Artworks

'When in Broome'

I created this artwork during my time travelling in Broome (Rubibi). My Mum came to visit and we sat by the water, planning our adventures around Rubibi. This artwork reminds me of our time here together, walking through town, going to cultural events, and sharing new experiences together while on holidays. The beautiful flowers were in bloom, and the waters crystal clear with the most stunning contrast of the rich red sands. It is a time I will cherish forever.

‘Endless Summer’

Sunny days, a cool breeze and clear waters; this artwork was created as a reflection of my time camping and travelling through NSW over summer. The wattle and lemon myrtle bloom in the warm weather, and people go from campsite to campsite, following the flow of the rivers.

‘Country Resources’

‘Country Resources’ represents the land and the resources Country shares with us, highlighting sustainability and mutual care. The artwork features elements like waterholes, bush plants, animal tracks, and meeting places to reflect our deep connection with mother nature and community. Fine dotted details symbolize the diverse people linked through Country, reminding us of our shared responsibility to protect and sustain it.

‘Rosie’

‘Rosie’ is a gentle reflection of Country Resources, reimagined through soft pastel pinks and dusk hues. This palette evokes the quiet beauty of Country at dusk, a time of stillness, reflection, and connection. Just like the original, ‘Rosie’ honours the land and the resources it shares with us, symbolising sustainability, reciprocity, and community. The natural elements (waterholes, bush foods, animal tracks, and meeting places) remain, while the soft, warm tones capture the calming and nurturing feeling of Country as day turns to night.

How The Girlfetti & Mirii Art Collaboration Works

At Girlfetti, is is extremely important to us that our collaborations fairly compensate the artists that we are lucky to work with and that the meaning behind their artwork is accurately translated when created into our earrings and accessories.

When we first started discussing a collaboration with Caitlin, she requested that she would like a lump sum payment for the 4 pieces of artwork used in this collection, instead of receiving a commission per piece sold.

Additionally, we have worked extremely closely with Caitlin on this collaboration. Every single design was approved by Caitlin before production, to ensure that Caitlin's culture and the meaning of each artwork was accurately translated when created into the products in this collection.
